What would be the world without the Arts?

In my opinion, the Arts are a very essential activity for Mankind. In todays time of war, terror and injustice, the Arts are one of the most important positive forces in making a better, more tolerant and more beautiful world.

The above views motivated me to open Yann Aubert Agency for the performing arts and sports in 1999, after a international carreer as a ballet dancer, an agency serving the purpose of promoting the Performing Arts and being at the same time a financially viable activity for me and my partners.

During my 10 years of ballet, my colleague dancers and I often suffered from last minute rehearsal or cast changes, and I always found that a lot of creative energy, time and money was wasted because of problems in organization. Now in my new role as a manager, I realize that coordinating it all and making it go right, is a very complex undertaking. Honestly it is harder than I had thought!

The art of stage performance is a team activity. Performers, technicians and other staff are highly qualified specialists in their fields, but the amount of coordination work to make all those partners (most of them freelancers) become part of an efficient team in short time is what is very often underestimated. Team work is essential in putting together a high quality performance.

Performing Arts management requires a strong sense of responsibility for the job, a very clear understanding of all the elements that are part of that activity (artistic, financial, human etc.) and a very effective way of working with people and handling actions.

My work philosophy is to view Art Management as an Art in itself and to offer the public great performances done by great people working as a team in a creative, harmonious and respectful way, supported by a professional and financially viable management concept.

It is a real challenge and I am taking it !
